This is a close-up of Mr. Wee Kim Wee, Chairman of Singapore Anti-Tuberculosis Association (SATA) from 1959 to 1961. He was a student of Pearl's Hill School and Raffles Institution; Honorary Secretary of Useful Badminton Party (1937-1939); Chief Correspondent and Office Manager of United Press International (1947-1959); Deputy Editor for The Straits Times (1959); a Justice of the Peace (1966); Editorial Manager of The Straits Times (1970-1973); Honorary Secretary (1949-1952) and later President of Singapore Badminton Association (1955-1958); High Commissioner to Malaysia (1973-1980); Ambassador to Japan and the Republic of Korea (1980-1984); Chairman of Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (1984-1985); the fourth President of Singapore (Aug 1985-Aug 1993); Chief Scout of Singapore (1985-1993); and Chancellor of National University of Singapore (1985-1993). He was awarded the Public Service Medal (1963), the Public Service Star (1973), and the Meritorious Service Medal (1979). For his outstanding services to the nation, he was conferred the Order of Temasek First Class in 1993. Title devised by Library staff.
