This is a portrait of Ms. Hedwig Anuar, former Director of the National Library in Singapore. She worked as a librarian at the University of Malaya Library in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur (1952-1962); and later became Assistant Director (1962-1964) and Director of the National Library in Singapore (May 1965-Nov 1988); Chairman of the National Book Development Council of Singapore (1981); and founder member (Oct 1985) and the third President of the Association of Women for Action and Research (1989-1991).
