This book contains press reports from the Singapore Free Press, Straits Times, Bangkok Times, London Times and others published between 1890-1895, about the proposed 136 miles of railway line from Senggora or Songkra on the Gulf of Siam across the Peninsula to Alor Star and Penang. The articles provide background information on the negotiations between the King of Siam, Sultan of Kedah and Governor of Senggora and discuss the benefits that the building of the railway line will bring to the people in the area it passes through and especially to Penang.
