This is a copy of the 1844 publication containing 92 plates of illustrations, and a large folded map, which accompanied Raffles's monumental work, History of Java, written when he was Lieut.-Governor of Java and its dependencies. Published here are illustrated portraits of Javanese nobility and ordinary folks in ancient costumes, sketches of Javanese weapons, musical instruments, ancient inscriptions, fascimiles of signs, plans of ancient temples, as well as diagrams of Javanese architecture and historical artifacts.
