Description
This picture depicts Brigadier-General (NS) Tan Yong Soon, standing in front of a scale model of the buildings in Singapore. He was Chief Executive of the Urban Redevelopment Authority from June 2001 to December 2003. In 1974, he was awarded the Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholarship. He joined the armed forces in 1974 and was promoted from Colonel to Brigadier-General in 1993. He served as Military Personal Secretary to Minister of Defence (1982); Director (Policy) for Defence (1989); Deputy Secretary (Policy) for Defence (1992-1995); Principal Private Secretary to Prime Minister (Apr 1995-1996); Deputy Secretary (Policy) for Finance (2000-May 2001); Acting Permanent Secretary for the Environment (Jan-Mac 2004); Permanent Secretary for the Environment and Water Resources (2004-Jan 2009) and National Development (to date); Director of the Singapore Broadcasting Authority (Oct 1994) and SMRT (2000); and Member of the Trade Development Board (1995-1996). He was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Gold) (Military) in 1994. Title devised by Library staff.
