This is a close-up of Mr. Wee Kim Wee, High Commissioner of Singapore to Malaysia, who served from 1973 to 1980. He was a student at Pearl's Hill School and Raffles Institution; Chairman of Singapore Anti-Tuberculosis Association or SATA (1959-1961) and Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (1984-1985); Honorary Secretary of Useful Badminton Party (1937-1939); Chief correspondent and office manager of United Press International (1947-1959); Deputy Editor for The Straits Times (1959); Justice of Peace (1966); Editorial Manager for The Straits Times (1970-1973); Honorary Secretary (1949-1952) and later President of Singapore Badminton Association (1955-1958); Ambassador to Japan and the Republic of Korea (1980-1984); President of Singapore (Aug 1985-Aug 1993); Chief Scout of Singapore (1985-1993); and Chancellor of National University of Singapore (1985-1993). He was awarded the Public Service Medal (1963), the Public Service Star (1973), and the Meritorious Service Medal (1979). For his outstanding service to the nation, he was conferred the Order of Temasek First Class in 1993. Title devised by Library staff.
