A visit to the Indian Archipelago, in H.M. ship Maeander, with portions of the private journal of Sir James Brooke. Vol. II

This is the second of two volumes detailing the journey to the Indian Archipelago and the Pacific islands by Sir Henry Keppel. He describes the flora and fauna of places they visited, native tribes and their customs such as head hunting, cannabilsm and suttee. Chapters 17-19 reproduces the journal of Sir James Brooke in which he describes the adminstration of Sarawak, daily lives of the people, customs and ceremonies, piracy, the characteristics and relationship of the Chinese, Dayak and other communities, etc. The appendices consist of documents for or against Mr Hume or Sir James Brooke in the matter of the suppression of piracy in Borneo.
