Volume 2 provides a detailed account of the history, population, politics, government and commerce of the Malay States of Kedah, Perak, Selangor, Johore, Pahang, Trengganu, Kelantan, Patani, Rembrau as well as a description of Malay customs, etiquette, laws, language, literature, together with a section on the wild tribes of the Malay Peninsula. Appendices include texts of the various treaties signed by the British and the Dutch with the Malay States in the early part of the 19th century.
