This 1983 photograph shows North Boat Quay, with a view of the bumboats on the Singapore River (from Read Bridge). Also known as tongkangs or twakows, these bumboats were an important form of transportation in the trade activities taking place at the Singapore River in the early days. Shophouses can be seen on the bank of the river along North Boat Quay. Title devised by Library staff.
