Tanjong Rhu, Singapore

A black-and-white postcard showing Chinese tongkangs moored in Tanjong Rhu, with a large attap village on stilts in the background. Many tongkangs were used to ferry charcoal and firewood until their number dwindled from the late fifties. The villagers in Tanjong Rhu were moved out to make way for the Kallang Airport that opened in 1937. Date of creation estimated.
