This photograph shows a street scene in Hock Lam Street in the 1950s. On both sides of the street are rows of shophouses with clothes on bamboo poles hanging out from the windows of the upper floors. Outside the shops are street hawkers selling food, fruits and other goods. Seen in the picture is a trishaw parked in the foreground and in the background is the Central Fire Station. In the 1970s, Hock Lam Street was redeveloped and Funan Centre was built over the site in 1985. Photograph donated by Peh Heng Huat and displayed at Heritage Roadshow 2007. Date of creation estimated. Title devised by Library staff.
