This 1992 photograph depicts Bukit Timah Road (from Prince of Wales Road, southwards). Bukit Timah is Malay for tin hill, which is a misnomer, since no tin has ever been found in the area. Timah could also be a mispronunciation of temak, the Malay name for a species of tall rainforest tree. Title devised by Library staff.
