This is a pre-1914 photograph from E. A. Brown's collection. It shows three people in a side alley, with two of them engaged in a conversation. A man wearing a long dark beard and a traditional cap is seated on the ground, with a pile of what appears to be white cotton goods placed on the ground next to him. The cotton goods seller is talking to a Malay man wearing songkok, sarong and white jacket standing in front of him. A third figure is seated next to them, along the wall.
