This is a pre-1914 photograph from E. A. Brown's collection. It shows a section of the railway line leading to Kranji. A note on the back indicates that the picture is taken northwards from Chancery Lane. Bukit Timah Canal can be seen on the left of the railway track, and Bukit Timah Road on the left of the canal.
