    This photograph shows the cremation of bodies of plague victims collected from the hospital run by the Roman Catholics in China. In all 250 bodies were collected from the hospital in 1911. This is a mass cremation carried out in the outdoors. Title devised by Library staff.

    This photograph shows workers at a cremation ground in China during the pneumonic plague in 1921. The corpses were those of victims of the plague and had been brought to the ground by horse carts. Snow can be seen on the ground. Title devised by Library staff.
