This 1966 photograph shows a shophouse, with decorative fretwork fascia underneath the eave of the roof. The swinging doors (pintu pagar) are a typical feature of Peranakan houses, allowing in breezes while maintaining privacy. The gilded plaque on top of the door is called a ji hoo which displays the surname or family name of the household. The shophouse is located at Joo Chiat Road. Title devised by Library staff.
