Improvised ambulances used in the 1910-11 epidemic

The one on the right was for the sick and the one on the left was for contacts. This photograph shows two improvised ambulances used in the 1910-11 plague in Harbin. These wagons are pulled by horses. The one for the sick is covered while that for contacts is unsheltered. The staff manning the ambulances are dressed in protective clothing that cover their bodies and faces except for tow holes for the eyes. Title devised by Library staff.
