This 1985 photograph shows a canal along Bukit Timah Road (from overhead bridge opposite Leng Kway Baptist Church, view northwards). Bukit Timah is Malay for tin hill, which is a misnomer, since no tin has ever been found in the area. Timah could also be a mispronunciation of temak, the Malay name for a species of tall rainforest tree. Title devised by Library staff.
