This is a 1940s photograph from E. A. Brown's collection. It shows a view of the Singapore river, as seen from Elgin Bridge. Coleman Bridge can be seen in the middle. The Hill Street Police Station is on the right, near Coleman Bridge, while Tan Kim Seng’s godown is on the left. North Boat Quay can be seen in the background. Several twakows (cargo barges or bumboats), sampans, boatmen and godown workers can also be seen. Date of creation estimated. Title devised by Library staff. Information contributed by Richard Hale.
