A 1950s photograph of Bugis sailing ships used to trasport cargo for trade. The Bugis were well-known as marintime traders. The Bugis ships brought several goods such as cotton cloth, gold dust, birds-of-paradise feathers, pepper, trepang (sea slugs), sandalwood, tortoiseshell, coffee, and rice to Singapore. Part of a compiled album, with a label : "PHOTOGRAPHS BY : R.K. TYERS. Staff STRAITS STEAMSHIP CO., LTD. SINGAPORE." Title devised by Library staff. Date of creation estimated.
