This is a photograph from E. A. Brown's collection. It shows Malay kolehs in the foreground, at the New Year Sea Sports, on 1 January 1939. The annual regatta is held at the Singapore Harbour, off Collyer Quay. Several buildings can be seen in the background, like the Supreme Court Building on the right (which is under construction) and the Municipal Building to the right. A hand-written note on the back of the photograph reads: “1.1.1939”. Date of creation estimated. Title devised by Library staff. Information contributed by Richard Hale.
