Celebrating graduation during circuit breaker period

"During the Circuit Breaker, one of our neighbours suggested on our WhatsApp chat that we would go to our balconies at a set time to sing together to whoever was having a birthday. It turned into a routine for many of us, a highlight of our day, and many residents of our community joined in! We could see whole families on the balconies, clapping together and shouting good wishes - it was very heart-warming! When my daughter’s graduation had to be moved online, I asked on the chat if they could surprise her with some clapping on her graduation day. I didn’t expect such a great response. At the set time, I told her to come outside to take some pictures... It was a wonderful moment! For two minutes they clapped, cheered and shouted for her - it brought tears to my eyes, and I’ll never forget it! So grateful to be part of this community."--Contributed by Anonymous, as part of the "Documenting COVID-19 in Singapore" collection community call. This photograph shows a woman wearing a graduation gown and a mortarboard standing next to some balloons at the balcony of her apartment. As graduation ceremonies were held online during the circuit breaker period, the graduate is seen here celebrating her graduation with neighbours. Some neighbours in nearby balconies can be seen waving to her. Additional description by Library staff.
