This photograph depicts a Samsui woman with a bucket and other tools beside her, scrubbing the grooves between tiles at the MOE (Ministry of Education) building. Although she is wearing a blue headgear (a mark of mourning or distinguishing them as coming from the Sun Yap area in China), samsui women are usually dressed in their characteristic samsui red headgear and blue samfoo (sometimes spelt samfu), a tunic-and-trouser suit. Title devised by Library staff. Date of creation estimated.
