Joo Chiat Road shophouse : general view [1]

Reproduction Available:

This 1966 photograph shows a newly restored shophouse with decorative fretwork fascia underneath the eave of the roof along Joo Chiat Road. The house has swinging doors (pintu pagar). These doors are a typical feature of Peranakan houses, allowing in breezes while maintaining privacy. Separating the casement windows are pilasters, decorated with floral tiles. Bat-shaped vents can also be seen above the windows of the first floor. Title devised by Library staff.
