Photographer’s annotation on slide: “Food center on Chin Hin Street. Singapore/05.12.70. New Bridge Road & Hongkong Street”. This 1970 photograph shows part of New Bridge Road and the open-air roadside food ’hawker’ centre on the now-expunged Chin Hin Street. The makeshift food stalls with their canvas canopies, tables and chairs, street food vendors and some customers can be seen in the food centre. Advertisement billboards on the shophouses along the food centre, motor vehicles at the traffic junction and the pedestrians on the road also form part of the street scene.
