A black and white postcard of native stilt houses in Tanjong Rhu with the sampan or boats moored around the huts. There were both Malay and Chinese stilt villages in Tanjong Rhu. Their houses were joined by wooden bridges and they navigated the water lanes with sampans. The attap dwellings in Tanjong Rhu had to be removed to make way for the Kallang Airport that opened in 1937. The villagers were handed $50 as compensation for moving out. This postcard was mailed to London and has a divided back. Date of creation estimated.
