Reproduction Available:

This 1966 photograph shows a storage jar, tempayan, found in a typical Peranakan home in Malacca. These large, boldly decorated jars are usually used for storing staples such as rice and water. The contents are kept cool from rodents and other pests, especially when covered with a wooden lid and raised off the ground with a stand. Title devised by Library staff.
