This 1968 photograph shows the gilded door frame of a house on Emerald Hill Road. These swinging doors (pintu pagar) are a typical feature of Peranakan houses, allowing in breezes while maintaining privacy. Emerald Hill Road, located off Orchard Road, was associated with the Peranakans in the 1930s as almost half the houses were owned by them. Date of creation estimated. Title devised by Library staff.
