This 1993 photograph shows North Canal Road (from Lorong Telok towards South Bridge Road). It shows a view of a street with shophouses on the right, and shady plants on the left. North Canal Road is named after the Singapore Canal which was built in the early days to drain the swamps. The canal was subsequently filled up to widen the roads. Title devised by Library staff.
