This is a head-and-shoulder portrait of Dr. Wu Lien-teh, a Penang-born physician, at the age of 41. He was in command of anti-plague work during the second pneumonic plague epidemic in Manchuria for the period 1920-21. Dr. Wu is in a changshan and wearing round-framed spectacles.
