This 1982 photograph shows Tanjong Pagar Road, towards Neil Road. It shows a view of a street with shophouses in the right foreground and on the left, and Metropole Cinema in the right background. Tanjong Pagar means "cape of stakes" in Malay, and the road is probably named for the kelongs found in the sea near the area. Fairfield Methodist Church now occupies the Metropole Cinema building. Title devised by Library staff.
