This 1970 photograph shows the swinging doors (pintu pagar) of a typical Peranakan terrace house in Malacca. These swinging doors allow breezes in while maintaining privacy. It is finely carved and gilt with an eclectic mix of Chinese and European motifs. In many ways, ornate pintu pagar are symbols of wealth for many rich Peranakans. Title devised by Library staff.
