THE BETHLEHEM OWNED BY TEN HU STEAMSHIP COMPANY IN HONG KONG COLLIDED WITH THE SHOWA MARU OWNED BY THE TAIHEIYO KAIUA K K COMPANY OF TOKYO, WHICH WAS CARRYING ABOUT 20,000 TONS OF CRUDE OIL FROM THE PERSIAN GULF ON HER WAY BACK TO JAPAN. THE IMPACT OF THE COLLISION BROKE HER PIPE LINE IN TWO SPILLING ABOUT 1,000 TONS OF OIL IN THE AREA, INCLUDING THE EASTERN PART OF JOHORE. THE RAILING ON THE TANKER'S STARBOARD SIDE WAS ALSO DAMAGED.
