Hiap Chuan Joo was one of the largest sawmill factories in Singapore. Located at Balestier it produced wooden crates used for beverages including Coca-Cola and Tiger Beer. Taken between 23 and 24 January 1954 this photograph shows workers constructing the main factory building at No. 516 Balestier Road. The frame of the building can be seen.
