This 1986 photograph shows the verendah, next to Bras Basah Road, towards Prinsep Street. It depicts two signboards of two merchandises "New Lucky Store" and "Cathay Photo Store (Pte) Ltd" on the beams. Bras Basah is Malay for wet rice. In the early days, wet rice was laid to dry here on the banks of the Sungei Bras Basah, now known as the Stamford Canal. Title devised by Library staff.
