Hiap Chuan Joo was one of the largest sawmill factories in Singapore. Located at Balestier it produced wooden crates used for beverages including Coca-Cola and Tiger Beer. Taken between 23 and 24 January 1954 this photograph shows the construction of Hiap Chuan Joo sawmill factory at No. 516 Balestier Road. There are seven workers at a factory lorry.
