This 1967 photograph shows a side view of one of the buildings of Grand Hotel, located at Still Road South. The Victorian-style building has architectural features like Corinthian columns, decorative arches and plaster facade decorations. The octagonal structure at one end of the building and a balcony with iron lacework railings are depicted in the picture. Grand Hotel, a Victorian-style complex was built in 1917 and used as a private residence by Moona Kadir Sultan, a wealthy Indian merchant. The complex was then-named Karikal Mahal, after the merchant’s hometown of Karikal in Tamil Nadu (India). Grand Hotel itself was established in 1947 and closed in 2000.
