THE WORLD WAR II MINE EQUIVALENT TO 500 POUNDS OF TNT, EXPLODING IN THE SEA OFF PULAU HANTU, SOUTH-WEST OF PULAU BUKOM. THE EXPLOSION CAUSED WAVES SOME 100 FEET HIGH. THE OPERATION WAS JOINTLY CARRIED OUT BY MEMBERS OF THE SINGAPORE ARMED FORCES, POLICE AND THE PORT AUTHORITY. THE MINE WAS DISCOVERED BY A SCUBA DIVER. PICTURE SHOWS 100-FOOT WAVES AS THE MINE EXPLODES -
