Malaysia Day celebrations in Sabah, Malaysia



Malaysia Day celebrations held at Jesselton (now known as Kota Kinabalu) city field in Sabah, Malaysia on 16 September 1963. Tun Datu Mustapha Datu Harun (dressed in all white in the middle), Sabah's first Head of State, is being sworn into office. On his right is Tun Muhammad Fuad (Donald) Stephens, Sabah's first Chief Minister, dressed in the national Kadazan costume. To his left is Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein. There are colonial officers present and many others watching, including local kids scouts groups. Dated 18/12/1963 at back of photograph. Title devised by Library staff.
