This 1870 photograph shows a view of Telok Ayer and Telok Ayer Bay, an area set aside by Stamford Raffles for the Chinese community in 1822. Between 1878 and 1885, the government levelled the hills along the coast, including Mount Wallich for the reclamation. Title devised by Library staff. Date of creation estimated.
