Ocean Building at Collyer Quay in Singapore, 1970s [3]

This photographs shows an external front view of the Ocean Building which is under construction. Active construction is taking place at the topmost level of the building where a large crane is hoisting a building material over steel piles and scaffoldings. The building's plaza several levels below and near the ground is also under construction. Building materials such as sand and steel piles are heaped at the foot of the construction site. Designed as a double convex shape with two curved walls, this view captures the curved facade of the building that is fronting Raffles Place. The other curved wall follows the sweep of Collyer Quay. When completed, the building can be accessed either from Raffles Place or Collyer Quay. The foundation stone of this new Ocean Building was laid on 26 March 1972 and it was completed in 1974.
