This 1966 photograph shows a shophouse at Joo Chiat Place. Architectural features include decorative fretwork fascia underneath the eave of the roof, windows with timber louvred shutters on the upper floor, and windows with security bars on the lower floor. The shophouse also has swinging doors (pintu pagar), a typical feature of Peranakan houses, allowing in breezes while maintaining privacy. Title devised by Library staff.
