Haw Par Villa, plaque : general view

This 2010 photograph shows a plaque commemorating Mr. Aw Boon Haw and Mr. Aw Boon Par, the founders of the Haw Par Villa. The former Tiger Balm Gardens were completed in 1937. This Chinese mythology theme park is the only one in Asia, after the redevelopment of a similar theme park in Hong Kong. The Aws built three villas in the 1930s; in Singapore (villa demolished after WWII), Hong Kong (demolished for redevelopment) and FuJian China (villa only with no theme park). Title devised by Library staff.
