Laboratory Medicine, National University Hospital, during COVID-19 pandemic

"THANK YOU NUHEROES. It’s serious business in the labs at the National University Hospital, where medical technologists handle highly infectious samples every day. They extract the viral genetic material from patients’ samples in negative pressure rooms and run molecular diagnostics tests for infections like dengue, HIV and now, COVID-19. To make sure the results are accurate, each sample undergoes a few tests and detailed analysis. In a matter of hours, the hospital will know whether a patient is infected and can start treatment, contact tracing and containment — all thanks to the speedy, meticulous work of the hospital’s medical technologists."--Contributed by National University Hospital, as part of the "Documenting COVID-19 in Singapore" collection community call.
