This photograph shows a kampong house and a wooden hut in a Malay village in Tanjong Katong, Singapore, taken around the 1870s. The structures have thatched roofs and are nestled among many tall coconut trees. A parked sampan on the sandy grounds suggest that the huts are near the beach. Two Malay men and a Malay child are sitting in front of the sampan. This photograph forms part of a collection of black and white photoprints of Singapore and Borneo, circa 1870s.
