Melrose Abbey, postcard : front

The image shows a general view of the Melrose Abbey, located at the Scottish Borders, Scotland. Founded in 1136 by Cistercian order in Melrose, the monastery is now in ruins. The roof is covered in moss, with grass overgrown amongst the tombstones on the monastery's burial grounds. The postcard bears the captions "Melrose Abbey from S. E." at the top right corner and "0349 J.V." at the bottom left corner of the postcard. Date of creation estimated. Title devised by Library staff.
