The period coincided with the driest time of summer when there was the largest number of flies around. This photograph shows Dr. Wu Lien-teh, a Penang-born physician, standing among plants in the ourdoors. There is a Red Cross logo on the left sleeve of his white gown. This was taken at the height of the cholera epidemic in Harbin in August 1919. Title devised by Library staff.
