Thian Hock Keng Temple, 1900s : exterior

This photograph shows an exterior view of Thian Hock Keng Temple (Temple of Heavenly Happiness) with two people in sarongs and a rickshaw puller in front of it. Built between 1839-1842, it is the oldest and most important Hokkien temple in Singapore. It is dedicated to Matsu, the Taoist goddess of the sea and protector of all seamen. Title devised by Library staff. Date of creation estimated.
