Workers loading lorry at Hiap Chuan Joo sawmill, 1964



Hiap Chuan Joo was one of the largest sawmill factories in Singapore. Located at Balestier it produced wooden crates used for beverages including Coca-Cola and Tiger Beer. Taken on 12 December 1964 this photograph shows workers loading lorry with wooden planks at the factory. The home of the owners, the Ng family, can be seen on the left in the background.
