This is a 1982 photograph of Tanjong Pagar Road, with shophouses facing Murray Street and the Metropole Cinema. Tanjong Pagar means "cape of stakes" in Malay, and the road is probably named for the kelongs found in the sea near the area. Title devised by Library staff.
